In this unique project, anyone can buy a note for $1. The purchaser chooses an exact note (for example: A, C#, Eb) and can dedicate the note to someone special if they wish. Each note is then incorporated into a new musical work by a Symphony of a Million composer. Each piece will contain an appendix with a list of the notes purchased, to whom they are dedicated, and where they are used in the piece.
Composer Anthony Lanman will be writing a 4000 note work for Pictures on Silence, Any notes now purchased will become a part of this piece.
Works of varying length will be written by composers including Dave Schwartz, Andrew Rudin, Michael Schelle, and Alex Shapiro. A premier concert featuring all of the works created from the 1 million-note total is planned for May 18, 2011, the 100th anniversary of the death of Gustav Mahler, the composer of the “Symphony of a Thousand.”
